A Special Get Well Wish from Joanne Lee Photography

Sending a very special get well wish to one of my loyal blog readers. She happens to be a very special lady! You see, when I was born my mother named me after her favorite cousin. My namesake, Joanne, has been recovering from some serious health issues recently. I wanted to take a moment and tell her that I have been thinking of her over these past few months, and praying for her recovery.

Here's to you, Joanne! Thank you for always reading my blog. It makes me smile when my mom tells me you and she have chatted about my little internet home, here. All the best to you! When you are feeling up to par, let's create a beautiful portrait of you and your family as my gif to you. OK? Ok, I'm counting on you being in front of my camera sometime in the not too distant future, pretty lady!

In Front of the Camera for a Change, Self Portraits from Maine Photographer, Joanne Lee

 
 
 
I spend a LOT of time behind the camera. So when faced with a bit of free time this week, I decided to get in FRONT of the camera! These are a few self portraits I created this week while the kids were off at school. I have a favorite room in my home that is bathed in sunlight. It is very flattering light (which at my age, I NEED all the help I can get!!) and has a lovely color on the wall. It's a win-win.

I used my small Canon G11and held the camera out with my arm. No, I didn't even use a tripod! Now is that talent or what??? I tried to disguise the 'hold the camera out/arm" with the poses. Oh, and to even make it a bit more fun (can you tell I work too much?) I added some bangs in the first one. OK....so I really don't have bangs, but am considering a hair style change. A trip to one of my favorite stores, Ulta, and VOILA! I have bangs! Well, faux-bangs anyway.

The results, are above. My own MOTHER didn't even recognize me. The second image especially threw her off. I showed her and she said "Who's that?" Ha ha ha!! I don't know if that is a good thing or not, but I am certainly pleased with the results.

Meet Olivia!

As a senior portrait photographer, I get to meet a lot of people. I meet the senior, their parents and often times, other members of their family at the portrait session. This lovely senior and her parents made a lasting impression on me.

Long before Olivia even stepped in front of my camera I knew we were going to hit this one out of the park! She and her mom had looked at a countless senior photos and many photographers. They had in mind a definitive style and feel they wanted for the portraits. To their credit, they were so helpful to me in defining their expectations for her portraits. You see, knowing what you want is SOOOOOO helpful. Now, granted, there are many times folks aren't exactly sure what they want, but they may be able to use words that describe what they are looking for. I always ask a client to describe what they want their portraits to say about them. Even asking the high school senior to describe themselves helps me to create a fine art portrait that is reflective of who they are. In Olivia's case, she is a creative spirit. She is a musician, actor and an all round expressive soul. I wanted to reflect this is her portraits.

All of the research, preparation and communication paid off. Together, we created these gorgeous images of her. I absolutely LOVE them and hope she and her family will too, once they see the rest of them! Thank you, Olivia!

Kristin and Stephen are getting married!!!! You could say it was a long courtship, a long engagement, or simply an unfolding love story. After 14 years (I'm pretty sure I'm close on the year count) together, they are getting married. They have two beautiful children together, and they make an extraordinary family.

I've had the pleasure of photographing Kristin's sister's family and friends for a number of years now. I've even photographed Kristin's friends and jsut recently met Kristin herself, for the first time in person. It seemed as though I already knew her!

This beautiful couple has a wedding planned at Spring Meadows Country Club later this month. I am looking forward to capturing the very moment they said "I Do!"
